Third-Party M&V Study: Thermal Energy Storage

A third-party engineering firm was selected by San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) Emerging Technology Program (ETP) to conduct a Measurement and Verification (M&V) analysis of Viking Cold’s thermal energy storage (TES) technology utilizing phase change material (PCM). The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of passive PCM in cold storage freezer applications and Camp Pendleton, San Diego County, CA, had just recently installed the Thermal Energy Storage (TES) solution inside its mess hall, making the base an ideal testing site.

Results include 30% energy savings and increased refrigeration efficiencies.
